Our story:
GW HERO was founded by Alireza Esfandiari in 2015. After having overcome times of tragic difficulty, all while adjusting to college life, he decided it was time to give back and support his peers who were also facing difficulties. He made it a mission to ensure that all GW students have the opportunity to enjoy their college years and be happy, despite challenges they face along the way. By founding GW HERO, he emphasized the claim that small acts of kindness have the power to change a person’s day. This idea has now become the organization’s main driving force.
Now, three years later, we continue to advocate for the well-being of every GW student. Our mission is to make campus feel more like home by reminding students that although college may be difficult, kindness is all around them. As we enter the 2018-2019 academic year, we plan to host numerous events with the goal of inspiring students to be kinder to one another. We hope to create greater cohesion within the university so that fewer students feel as though they have nowhere to turn in times of distress.
Pillars:
Help- We help to promote kindness throughout the GW community
Empower- We empower students to embrace their full selves
Revive: We encourage students to push through any challenges they are facing and keep moving forward
Overcome: We offer an outlet of support to students who are struggling
Mission Statement:
Our goal is to spread kindness throughout campus to remind students that they are always loved and supported, regardless of what they are going through.
